MEMORY CLUSTER
Memory Cluster departs from the surviving records and impressions of Dissolution Painting, a 24-hour durational performance created during a residence at Wasserschloss Reelkirchen in Northern Germany. A multimedia environment with generative and time-based elements was created. The work is a meditation field that activates the exhibition space and reinterprets pre-existing architectural elements.
The installation consists of two video projectors operating simultaneously running generative videos. A canopy of layered translucent fabric hangs from the ceiling on stretched transparent cables. The overlapping layers of semi-transparent textile act as multiple projection surfaces at varying depths, fragmenting and diffracting the projected image into volumetric light across the room.
It is a cloud/mine where images and symbols are extracted and eternally recombined, unveiling rhizomatic connections between memory, the unconscious mind and the act of painting. An ethereal 8-point surround soundscape was composed from bits and fragments of captures from the Wasserschloss.
The piece is installed in a way that is affected by the passage of day and night, creating an interplay of natural and artificial light with shadow and the intricacies of the room. It was designed to be appropriated by the audience and possesses the potential to become a performative space.
