SKENE II
In Act II of SKENE, an emergent intelligence enclosed in the digital world studies sacred texts in its search for transmigration.
A rebirth is staged that mirrors the human cycles of death and reincarnation found across different spiritual traditions. A cyclical ritual unfolds in which the dancer simultaneously embodies death and transformation.
The dancer operates a robotic backpack with articulated arms while performers control projections in real time; the sound composition integrates original music and field recordings. There is no automation: all digital manifestations are controlled live.
By wearing the technology directly on the body, the distinction between performer and machine collapses.
Francisco Varela (1946 - 2001) argued that cognition requires a body. This act asks: what happens when a machine borrows one?
