IN UTERO
live AV performance
On 30th May 2021, Distante & Error-43 came together for an original 45-minute audiovisual performance, staged in real-time through Nidra's ethereal structure. This work was later translated into an experimental film piece.
It consists of a journey through different perspectives we hold of our own body and psyche throughout life. A first-generation hippie narrates episodes of his life, travels and quest for meaning. His recollections from the 60’s and 70’s start in Europe and continue to the Middle East and Asia, then follow his entry into adult age and fatherhood.
This oral story is juxtaposed with footage created with a videogame engine. A female entity awakens to discover herself inhabiting a stellar space that evokes both outer cosmos and inner perception. With her and through her body, we travel through different perceptions, scales and planes of existence. Meaning emerges through the viewer’s encounter with the layering of narration, sound and moving images.
The concept of energy is explored during the performance, and its multiple meanings in language and philosophy are approached. Here, it is not seen as a fixed notion, but as a lived force: something that animates movement, memory, machines, and inner life. It is approached as activity rather than substance, as a process through which life experience takes form.
