Stasis is a piece built while a member of Rethorica Studio.
The installation was one of the winning proposals of Boom Festival 2016 Student Art competition, whose theme was Shamanism.
Boom Festival is one of the world’s most important psychedelic culture gatherings. Every two years, thousands of ravers and freaks go on a pilgrimage from the four corners of the world to celebrate life to the sound of electronic and acoustic music in Idanha-a-Nova.
The site-specific work was conceived in order to evolve with the passage of time. It was digitally modelled and built resorting to MDF profiles that function as flowerbeds. Its interior is filled with humid earth, which allows its appropriation by Nature.
Birds drop seeds that develop in its interior as the surrounding flora claims the installation. The result is the image of a ruin that progressively transforms itself with a high degree of impredictibility.
Stasis is an entity that sleeps enrooted in Gaia and by dreaming, brings Boom Festival into existence.
After its installation in 2016, the Boom organization decided that Stasis will be a permanent element of Boomland.
